also, i just finished a fantastic book that i think adam in particular would like, but that i encourage all of you to read. it's called europe central, and examines in exhaustive and panoramic detail the countries of germany and russia before, during and after world war II. it's very david foster wallace/pynchonesque and there was an INCREDIBLE amount of research behind it. william t vollmann is the author (coincidentally, also a deep springs/telluride alumnus), and his writing is absolutely superb. he won the national book award for this one, but his other books are also wonderful and i want all of you to search them out.
