katrina

i've been reading a bunch of articles on katrina, and there are just horrible things emerging. here's a short list of just a few things people should be aware of.

- in the superdome, at least two children have been raped.
- its not just children
- its being run like "a concentration camp"
- people are sitting in their own feces, terrified by rioters
- people are throwing themselves off the railing
- some haven't eaten or drunk for days- a report
- ironically, when this began, it was claimed that there were "meals to spare" and the national guard was supposed to be taking care of things
- the price of gas in the country is rising past 3 dollars a gallon
- of course, bush waited two days to deliver a statement, and upon doing so, makes no mention of setting aside money to help- a nytimes editorial
- gangs of armed men move around the devastated city
- looters are trying to break into a children's hospital
- thousands are believed to be drowned
- the city is on fire
- the Bush Administration cut New Orleans flood control by 44% to pay for Iraq
- condoleeza rice is shopping for shoes and going to see spamalot
- bush says they couldn't have anticipated the levees- here
- People are posting sex-for-shelter ads (”Women with large breasts only,” “Must be self-starter,” “Send photos first.”) on the New Orleans Craig’s List site.
- right wing crazy christian groups are blaming gay people and abortions for the situation
