CBTA (Updated)
Group photo! There were actually 12 candidates, but we were the only 6 left this morning:

L-R: Mariam (UT), Ridley (UM), Adi (Cornell), Yousef (Cornell), Eugene (UT), me

L-R: Ridley (UM), Edad (TASS), Steph (Cornell), Ian (UT), me (I need to learn how to look happy--I really was. It was sort of cold, though.)
Others: Becky from Cornell, Jacob from UT, and Kristin from TASP '97.
Weekend = awesome.
It was like TASP all over again, except without Bojosh, and condensed into 5 days. There were absolutely amazing people. The actual housemembers were somewhat busy, so we didn't talk with them too much. The interview went allright, as did some other things.
We played a lot of ping pong, chanted, saw some Bhangra, and wandered around campus. It's nice. (Nisha: I have no idea why you despise Ithaca so much. City slicker. It was pretty gray, though, I admit.) Most of our leisure time there was spent sitting around and talking about nothing and everything.
People trickled away slowly. As I write this, poor Ridley from UMich is still at Telluride House after having her flight canceled. But hopefully she'll make it. :P

BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH!
Ach, Jimmy--your time in Ithaca looks to have been absolutely wonderful! When is it that you find out which of your ranks becomes a hallowed Housemember?
And: How did the other TASPs--including those elusive Cornellians!--appear to fare over the long course of the summer?
Unfortunately, the rest of our prospective Michigan crew won't be able to have such an exciting-yet-nostalgic experience! Curses be to video interviews, indeed!
awesome! i wish i could crash wash u just to see everyone
1) Of course there were differences between the TASPs, but they were generally all good.
2) Some of the people there reminded me VERY strongly of people from our TASP. Michael, the perferment committee guy, was just like Josh. Adi was just like Ellen.
3) Ridley wasn't crazy, but she shared Jessi's characteristic font-of-knowledge-ness.
4) Yousef made the last round of Deep Springs, yeah. He's pretty awesome.
5) I'm going to kill you, Doug.
Josh, Dear Josh--
I did it! I did it! I conquered the sagging, tearful eyes of my terribly bulky March and April schedule, and through a slick series of seven-or-so emails to prominent parties and a few phone calls to a very nice Housemember named Fernando, arranged my way for a REAL LIVE ACTUAL IN-THE-FLESH INTERVIEW at your own dear House on Saturday!
I know that Fernando was puttering (does he putter? i know, i know--that is a tugboat noise, but I like it! if not, I hope that this does not merit offense!) around the House looking for you, but you are off singing tonight, so I want to let you know that I shall be visiting you!
If you have any gaping holes in your schedule on Saturday, or would like to amuse/entertain or be amused/entertained by or with the laugh-out-loud-sob-your-soul-out sort of stories that comprise these Midwestern lives, please let me know! I would dearly love to wander the streets of Ann Arbor with Our Mythic Factotum!
Although my interview is scheduled for 8h30-9h30, I am going to try to get my sleepy head to Michigan as early as possible, because I want to do a good deal of the "esoteric wandering" and "university-aura-reading" that the general madness of the upcoming Shipman weekend will not afford!
If you are at all around and available and not interviewing other vulnerable prospective Michiganders, take heed: I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN. With all kindness, of course!
Ach.
I think I am just caught in the fond embrace of memories of the First Ever TASP St. Louis reunion in old October. And I shall cry when I realize that Sarah and Emily aren't around to sing silly songs with me.
Regardless--the forces of good old interpersonal communications have once again come to triumph over the petty advances of cruel technology.
Take that, video interviews!
Resquiat In Pace,
JULES.
Post-Script:
Emily! When will you be interviewing? Is there any chance, however small or slight, that we will see each other? If so, we should exploit the opportunity, and post 3452.1083 photographs of ourselves and bizarre House architecture for our blogling friends to drool over. Pow!
Post-Script:
My interview is scheduled for 8h30-9h30 AT NIGHT, if I did not make that very clear. But, being a House Member and one of the official Determiners of Our Fates, I am sure that you already know that!
Post-Post-Script:
My laundry/self smells like flowers! This is both extremely pertinent, somewhat disconcerting, and highly unusual, and absolutely everyone should know.
Emily,
Nous serons party-it-up comme literati on Saturday afternoon!
Egad, Emily! This is all so very soon! I haven't even had the time to scheme out adventures, but the three of us most definitely MUST meet up on Saturday. I shall telephone you tomorrow night, if such a thing would be convenient, but until then, I must keep my mind from all Telluride lore--
weak acids & weak bases!
weak acids & weak bases!
Net Ionics > The Postmodern Condition.
Your Southern-ly Neighbor,
Gesso.
P.S.--Josh, it is wonderful to know that Fernando does indeed putter, even if in highly respectable ways. Additionally, I do not understand quite what you mean by "the two Cantonese and the French modernist"--are these cleverly nationalistic/existentially-indicative epithets for the other TASP veterans coming up to be interviewed, or does this line of commentary refer to something entirely beyond the present orbital of my somewhat tired brain? And, as to the Big Question: I need to be in Ann Arbor again before I could proffer an answer. But then I could proffer, if proffering would be desired. Huzzah for automobile excursions, and defense of one's canon-of-ideas-as-contained-in-Telluride-House-essays, even if said ideas have transformed themselves irreconcilably since the time of their espousal!
And two cheers, as always (said Forster), for democracy.
Three for our good boy Nunn.
Adam--
I have already promised Josh that I may drag you kicking and screaming to the House for impromptu dinner and Nunn-bashing on Sunday night, if they haven't already over-booked us, and if the lofty and numerous Shipman Authority Figures allow it.
AND WE'RE GOING AS THE REMNANTS OF ST. LOUIS TASP COLLECTIVE.
Mentally prepare yourself.
(Or: Perhaps I'll see you on Monday, and will feign fugue for the rest of our random interactions throughout the duration of Shipman Weekend.)

Ach, then the Miniscule Reunion plans are foiled, because I need to leave Ann Arbor by no later than 11 o'clock in the AM on Monday, and the representatives of those lovely Shipmans may well still have activities planned for us then.
I suppose that the remaining options are:
a. whine & spout alas-es (jessi)
b. cheer (adam) OR
c. reevaluate the "downtime" in the shipman schedule to allow time for "Telluride Business."
Down with decision-making.
